New Releases for 3/31/09
Blu-Ray
Pick Of The Week*** This is a pretty awesome release week. You can't go wrong with Ichi the Killer on Blu-Ray. You also have The Matrix as a single BD disc, which should make the sequel haters happy. Even Marley and Me was a pretty good little movie...there, I said it. Unfortunately, these movies all have the dubious distinction of being released on the same day as Slumdog Millionaire. Believe the hype, this movie is fantastic and will make a great addition to anyone's collection.
Sleeper pick!!! Timecrimes by Magnet films is a very cool time travel movie. I highly recommend it!

***Pick of the week*** As with the motion comic, I am passing on this week's Watchmen release. The Black Freighter is only a 25 mninute feature and I'm not sure that it is very interesting when you take it out of the main story's context. Let's also remember that it will be released as part of Watchmen when that DVD hits sometime this Summer, so why pay full price for it now?
The film that is the pick of the week is Quantum of Solace. It picks up right where Casino Royale left off, so theres no need for any character deveopment or back story. It's full on action from the begining, so if that's you cup of tea, click that link right now!
Honorable mention goes to Bolt. My kids and I enjoyed it very much.

Resident Evil 5 Review

I picked up Resident Evil 5 for X-Box 360 on launch day last week and have now spent several hours blowing the heads off of the ungodly diseased. I was a huge fan of the original Resident Evil and RE2, but have felt very mixed about the last few installments. After hearing mostly positive early reviews about RE5, I was eager to give it a try. Here are my thoughts.
The Continuity Crisis or The New Reader Friendly Comic
Wednesday, 18 March 2009 15:06 | Written by Ken Morgan
(Editor's note: This column was originally published March 18, 2009.) In the past several years, I’ve heard a discussion or argument come up from time to time. The topic of continuity in comics has become a hot button of sorts. Some want nothing to do with it, wanting only to read fun and exciting stories with their favorite characters. Others love to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry woven by the various plot threads that run through the comics of a given publisher. The idea is this: Each story told in comics builds on those that came before it. As the roster of characters grew, those characters started to interact with each other. Crossover titles became popular, taking a story from one book and finishing it in another. Individually each of these connections are fun, but they quickly build a history, a continuity, of themselves. It’s not unheard of to read a comic in 2009 that refers back to something that was written back in 1979. |
